Julia & Cheesecake #1 fresh strawberry cheesecake with macaroon crunch

Ok, so here it is. First of all I have to admit I committed a baker's faux pas. I didn't read the recipe through before I started and so I mistakenly had my husband get me a lemon from the store when I needed lemon extract, so I used about a tsp of lemon juice instead. Then I thought I had cornstarch but only had 1 Tbs. left when I needed 3Tbs. luckily my sister, who conveniently lives behind me had some in her pantry. 

So I've got mixer going and ready to add in the vanilla, warning, do not try to toss the vanilla in while mixer is going, the beater hit the measuring spoon and vanilla everywhere! It did turn out though, kinda pretty huh?

Had to try it out so here is the first slice.  Personally I would use less cornstarch next time.  I thought it was a little too gel like or dense.  I like a little bit lighter texture.  BTW these pictures were taken with my iphone so they are not the sharpest.  Next time have to use a real camera.

Julia & Cheesecake

This is a blog for my photography and personal life so this will be a bit of my personal life.  As most of my friends know, I love dessert! So I'm in Costco and here is this magazine "Juniors Cheesecakes" 40 To-Die-For Recipes for New York-Style Cheescake.
Well, I tell myself, Julia you really don't need this, you have plenty of cookbooks. But I had to open it up and look inside to read all about Juniors history, apparently they've been around since 1950 and there are some very different variations of the crust, like spongecake and shortbread.  So I start looking at all the photos, I can taste the creamy cake and buttery crust...... next thing you know it's in my cart.
So then I get this idea, like Julie in the movie "Julie and Julia", to make every one of those 40 cheesecakes, not one a day or week or even month but when I feel like it and then to blog it.

Serena and Seth are two months old.  Twins, but so different in personality and physique. They're going to keep Mom and Dad very busy for the next 18yrs or so!
